Me batty

Isn't that cool, how chimney swifts do that--cling to the walls of chimneys? Well, I think Terry's pretty smart for supposing that the creatures with the furiously beating wings that fly so fast I can't get a look at them in the early morning are more likely to be swifts than bats.

I'll have to pay more attention to their sound, which may be hard to distill from all the other bird sounds around as the sun is coming up.

Man, it's so hot in here that I don't like to be on the computer for long! I do love summer, otherwise.

sorry, I had to get that out of the way :)

I read Chimney sweep at first and nothign made sense. It is one in the morning, which might explain a lot!

I love summer, I am hardly inside and blogging, just outside ...letting the sun tickle my skin. I hope you are having a lovely summer so far!

I still don't know why they do that. Sigh....

It's so hot out that I'm on the PC this early to see if my walking buddy canceled today. No luck. Yesterday was a two-shower, two bra day. And as you know, we have central air. All the sweating was just in and out stuff.

I think that you're right. Probably chimney swifts.

Whoa! What a fabulous post my dear! Thanks for the honorable mention. I love swifts - check out a post I did a while back here

The swifts have generally been thought to be related to hummingbirds (rather than the swallows which they so closely resemble) so it is not surprising that they flap their wings so fast!:-D Those chimney swifts are a rather unattractive sort aren't they? LOL

The chittering sound which the swifts constantly make is easy to pick out above the other species of birds. I always think of summer when they are here...

Thanks, Terry--and I agree, they are rather unattractive. Being mistaken for bats is probably a cosmetic bad sign.

What's wrong with us - I thought chimney sweeps too and was wondering how could they stick to the sides of the chimney like that - a special suit?

I didn't have coffee yet.
